"Seven Chances" Film Review

Since it was blooming hot today outdoors, I decided to avoid the hot weather and enjoy a film inside. The question of which film to watch was no question at all, for few films are parallel to Buster Keaton's 1925 film, Seven Chances. The film often falls in the shadow of more popular Keaton films, but in my opinion, remains one of the earliest home runs in Keaton's career. Despite the somewhat clouded picture quality of the film due to its antiquity, Buster Keaton's shining talents never appeared more crystal clear than in Seven Chances. Right from the opening scene, Keaton captivates the audience with the appearing words on the screen, "One beautiful summer day, when fragrant flowers were in bloom, Jimmie Shannon met Mary Jones, and he wanted to tell her he loved her."
The lover's tale pulls at the heart strings and invites the audience on a young man's quest to find a wife by his 27th birthday in order to inherit 7 million dollars. Coupled with unparallelled comedy and wit at its best, above all else, Keaton's acting is superb. The film was by far one of the sweetest and funniest pictures I have ever seen; the movie had me laughing out loud despite the absence of the dialogue in Keaton's silent picture, Seven Chances
